First off, I would just like to point out that spring is an EXTREMELY busy time to be a student! lol I have so much stuff that is coming up within the next couple of weeks that I'm finding it hard to keep track of it all..

Last Wednesday and Thursday, we had spring open houses. Wednesday was an event that welcomed students who were committed to attending OSU; thursday was an event that welcomed students who still weren't sure where they wanted to attend college. Both events ran smoothly. As a "thanks for coming," we gave each student a little buckeye tree and an umbrella. I really want one of those umbrellas :(

I passed my first Sociology exam! Yay! Tomorrow, I have my first English exam. It covers The Merry Wives of Windsor and A Midsummer Night's Dream. I sure do love that Bill Shakespeare! On Friday, I have my second Spanish exam. I passed the first one, but I have a feeling this one may be a bit more difficult.

Next Monday and Tuesday, President Gordon Gee is visiting our campus!! Yeah, that's right. THE President of the OSU University is coming to OSU Lima. Monday's event will be held in the evening at the Shawnee Country Club. It's called Spring for Scholarships, but I'm still unsure about the itinerary for the evening. Tuesday's event is held in the morning. Students on campus are participating in a "Meet and Greet" and will be able to get their pictures taken with President Gee. We even get free t-shirts that have bow ties on them..how exciting!

On Wednesday, Buckeye Scholars, a club organized by honor students, is having their second bake sale. I'm going to make puppy chow. Oh, how I love that stuff! Mmm..the money raised is put towards our trip to Chicago on May 17 and 18. I have never been to Chicago, so I am really looking forward to this trip. More details later..

On May 6 and 7, there is a campus photo shoot for publications. And also on May 6, Passport to Lima is hosting an OSU Lima Baseball game. Staff/faculty vs. Students...I will be on the student team...we will most likely dominate. On May 7, WLIO is hosting their annual Scholar Athlete Banquet on campus. I will be in attendance to help out.

I think I'm forgetting something...

I probably am...lol

later on!

hey everyone! OSU is back in session on this wonderful Monday morning :) it's a beautiful day outside, and i hope it's just as beautiful on Saturday when the OSU football team plays their annual Scarlet and Gray Game (Spring Game). i'm not sure if i will be able to attend, but i do know that it is a great time for buckeye fans to gather together and get excited about the upcoming football season. i thought it would be appropriate to share some of the history of the Ohio State football team, so enjoy :) for the complete football history, as well as other information about OSU sports, visit www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com.

1890
Football becomes a varsity sport and Alexander Lilley is the first head coach.

1899
The Buckeyes notch a 9-0-1 record, their first unbeaten season.

1910
The construction of new bleachers increases the capacity of Ohio Field to 10,000. Football season tickets are sold for $2.50. Howard Jones, an All-American from Yale, is named head coach.

1915
Varsity manager William A. Dougherty wrote the fight song "Across the Field." The song was dedicated to Coach John Wilce and was first performed at the Illinois game (Oct. 16, 1915).

1919
Ohio State outscored its opponents 176-12 and went 6-1. OSU recorded its first win over Michigan, 13-3. The admittance of Ohio State to the Western Conference and the dramatic success of the football team under Coach Wilce magnified the inadequacy of Ohio Field.

1936
The Ohio State Marching Band performed "Script Ohio" for the first time at the Pittsburgh game (Oct. 10, 1936). OSU dropped its Big Ten opener to Northwestern, 14-13, but steamrolled through its remaining conference schedule with four shutouts in four games.

1949
Ohio State captures a share of the Big Ten championship and collects its first Rose Bowl win, beating California, 17-14.

1951
After a highly-scrutinized selection process, Wayne Woodrow "Woody" Hayes begins his 28-year tenure as head coach. A tireless worker, meticulous planner, and a Lieutenent Commander in the Navy, Hayes led his initial Buckeye team, which struggled to adjust to his T-formation style, to a 4-3-2 finish. Many thought Hayes’ days at Ohio State were numbered. They were wrong.

1956
Ohio State sets a Big Ten record with 17-consecutive victories, breaking Michigan’s previous mark of 15. Offensive guard Jim Parker became the first OSU player to win the Outland Trophy.

1975
Hayes gives West Coast reporters a now famous quote about Archie Griffin: "He’s a better young man than he is a football player, and he’s the best football player I’ve ever seen." Griffin becomes the first two-time winner of the Heisman Trophy, leading the Buckeyes to their conference-record fourth-consecutive Rose Bowl. He also becomes the NCAA’s all-time leading rusher in a midseason game against Purdue.

1989
Ohio State celebrates its 100th season of intercollegiate football. The Buckeyes overcome a 31-0 deficit to win 41-37 at Minnesota, equaling the largest comeback in NCAA history. OSU competes in the Hall of Fame Bowl, its 10th different postseason bowl appearance.

2001
Jim Tressel becomes the Buckeyes’ 22nd head football coach. The jerseys of Les Horvath (22) and Eddie George (27), Ohio State’s first and most recent Heisman Trophy winners, respectively, are retired. The Buckeyes defeat Michigan in Ann Arbor, their first win there since 1987. The three-year, $194 million stadium renovation is completed.

spring has sprung...

it smells like worms outside! yes, that's right..WORMS! lol you know what smell i'm talking about..it's that smell right after it rains, in the morning, when you know you'll probably step on 10,000 worms that have crawled out of the ground. they sure do pick weird times to go swimming...but anyways! i should probably start blogging more often! it seems like everytime i blog, i have way too many things to talk about. college is BUSY!

we are about to go into another weekend, but before i talk about this weekend, i would like to write about last weekend..friday night, my friend changed my guitar strings..finally! my other ones were getting pretty unplayable, and i'm excited about getting the new ones broken in. well, that is if i can ever find time to play it, considering i have to read for sociology, shakespeare, and spanish..and you know what? i just used alliteration..yay for an english term! saturday, i spent all day in van wert at my sister's dance competition. the new civic center there is amazing! it was just built, and it is remarkable. needless to say, my sister stole the show! :) sunday, i didn't have to work at McDonalds, which is a first for quite a while. it was nice taking a break, going to a friend's house, and "playing" (mainly just throwing) football, ordering pizza, all that fun stuff.

this wednesday, april 9, was the 4th annual Rudd Scholarship Banquet. because i am a past Rudd winner, i was asked to attend this event and help out. it was cool standing on the outside looking in, considering i was once in the recipients' positions. i cannot begin to articulate how grateful i am to have received the scholarship..Arthur and Marian Rudd were from Wapak, and they left their legacy of over 1 million dollars to the OSU Lima Campus to be awarded to 6 yearly incoming freshmen, 3 full-tuition scholarships and 3 half-tuition. the scholarships are renewable for as long as the student attends the Lima campus..tell me that is not incredible! being awarded this scholarship has really made a difference in my college career..and i'm proud to be a part of such a wonderful tradition.

it has now reached that time in the quarter where the first midterms/tests are being given..i took my first spanish exam on wednesday...it was tough, it was spanish. i have my first sociology exam on tuesday; i have a lot of reading to do over the weekend. i have already had two mini quizzes in english. not too bad; very specific to the reading, though. the difficulty of the exams are really left to the professors..once you have taken one of their exams, you can pretty much judge how the rest of them are going to be handled.

well, in a few minutes, i'm going to be heading towards campus. i'm pretty sure i have a tour today..who wouldn't want to visit campus on a day like today? the sun is shining, the air is warm. i can't wait to wear my flip-flops on a daily basis..oh, and ps: I GOT FOOTBALL TICKETS! :) :) :)

O..H..

spring quarter has gotten off to a really good start. i'm happy with all of my classes. spanish is going muy bien! lol sociology has finally taken off..dr. houghton is almost finished with his intro to sociology, so hopefully soon we will get into the core subject material of the course. i'm semi-sorta interested in sociology; i've never had any experience with the subject itself. i'm looking forward to learning more about it, just to see if it interests me or not. i've only fallen asleep in class once..hah! so that's a good sign. english hasn't been too bad. i actually really like shakespeare, but i feel the professor can do so much more with the curriculum to make the class more exciting..i have to admit that i've dosed off a few times during her lectures. i apologize :( it can go no where but up. all in all though, i couldn't be happier with this quarter, and i've heard that spring quarter tends to move the fastest..only time will tell!

just to let you know, this past weekend was extremely fun! friday night, i hung out with my friends from the office. there were five of us that went to our friends' apartment and played Wii for hours on end. i cannot believe how much fun that game is! yes yes, i realize i have mentioned it before, but this time, i really got to experience what Wii can do. we golfed, bowled, played tennis, and played baseball. i was up until about 6:30 in the morning, and all of us woke up at 9 wondering why on Earth we stayed up so late! i volunteered to help out with my sister's show choir tournament which just so happened to be that same day, so i was functioning on about 2 1/2 hours of sleep. the event is called Music and More, and it is put on by our school's choral department every year. all the area show choirs come, spend the day, compete, win prizes, and then our show choir is the last performance of the day before awards. i was so super tired but excited to see all my friends who are still in high school and those that have graduated and usually always come back to help with the event.

saturday night, From Ohio With Love (Brad's band) played at The Meeting Place. susie had come home for Music and More, and she accompanied me to Lima where we mingled, listened to music, and drank coffee. very fun evening! we had an early night, about midnight early. we were both so tired! sunday was spent with susie until 2, watching movies and drinking more coffee. we can't get enough of that stuff!

as a final note, i'm starting to get a cold. in between the sneezes, i've been blowing my nose for the past ten minutes. my head feels funny, and my entire body is tired. this is just a spring fever type thing, i'm sure, so hopefully it'll be all gone by the time summer comes! :)

time to finish mi tarea de espanol...
